Meet Our Staff

One of the advantages we have over most of our competitors is our team.

Our Inspectors

You’ll notice as you read the following comments about our inspectors that they have varying backgrounds and interests. They do, however, have a couple of common traits that make them great inspectors. They enjoy what they do and they are always looking for better ways to do it.

Henry Khuu, Lic#47510
Because of his academic strength, experience and interpersonal skills, Henry has become our inspections manager. He is a graduate of the University of Calgary with a degree in mechanical engineering and is a Professional Engineer. Henry has years of experience in the home inspection industry. Henry and James Dobney helped develop, and were the first instructors for Douglas College’s Home Inspection Program. Henry spends much of his time with our commercial inspections division, specializing in Property Condition Assessments and Strata Property Depreciation Reports. He has taken a leadership role in both our residential and commercial divisions. Henry is an avid sports fan. When he’s not driving his kids to hockey, lacrosse or baseball games you’ll find him somewhere on the golf course (not always in the fairway).

Sheldon Hoekstra, Lic#59259
Sheldon is the third generation in a family involved in the building trade. Sheldon started working summer holidays as a teen on both single and multi family housing and stayed in the industry for 15 years, learning many tips and tricks from other trades on site. Home inspection seemed the ideal way to share his knowledge and help people understand the inner workings of their home. Sheldon is a seasoned inspector and has continued updating and improving his skills and knowledge through HIABC. He does his very best to answer all your questions in jargon free, in plain language. Sheldon’s satisfaction is derived from helping you make a well-informed home buying decision.

Jon Sheppard, Lic#58203
A graduate of the University of British Columbia’s Industrial Education program, Jon went on to become a Certified Kitchen and Bathroom Designer and has spent 25 years remodelling homes throughout the lower mainland and the Gulf Islands.  His understanding of how to take homes apart and put them back together has been invaluable to his home inspection career. When time allows, Jon creates beautiful stained glass panels and has written and published two “How-to” books about stained glass.

Brian DeGeer, Lic#78394

Brian has been involved in the built environment in a variety of roles for almost 40 years. He graduated from the University of Brighton with a BSc (Hons) degree in Project Management for Construction. He worked around Vancouver for many years as a framing contractor (timber and steel) and later as a building envelope contractor. Early in his project management career Brian embraced the emerging concept of sustainability, and has continued to explore those ideals, from several published research papers on the subject in the UK, to growing his own food for years. In his spare times Brian is fairly involved on the soccer pitch with his daughters.
